Book Pass
Ebook and audiobook distribution to schools
Launching in late 2025, this is a cost-effective and flexible solution for teachers to provide the same book or collection of books to pupils.
Proposition for Publishers
- Generate licensing income from schools for reading ages 7 to 16
- Make it easy for school teachers to rent digital books for an entire class or year group
- Support reading for pleasure at a young age
Service Proposition
Book Pass is a cloud-hosted service for teachers wishing to provide access to audiobooks and ebooks to an entire class or year group. The service supports reading for pleasure, as well as literacy development programs in schools. Book Pass is ideally suited for schools that don’t own or cannot afford sufficient numbers of physical copies or want the flexibility of changing their reading list from one year to the next.
Pupils are provided with a QR code to stick in their reading journals. By scanning the QR code pupils can read the book at home or in school using their smartphone or tablet
There is no app to install and no files need to be downloaded. All ebooks and audiobooks are streamed with the Jellybooks Cloud Reader
Pupils do not have to set-up an account and do not need to share their personal details with Jellybooks, assuring GDPR compliance. The identity of each pupil is known only to the teacher generating the QR code on a per pupil basis.
Schools pay a fixed fee per book and pupil. Access is for one school term of twelve to fourteen weeks.
Jellybooks provides a curated selection of lists of two to five titles around specific topics for teachers to choose from. Teachers also have the option to generate their own custom reading lists for pupils.
Audience
The primary audience is pupils in KS-1 and K2-2, though the service is also marketed to secondary schools and above.
Books Pass covers fiction and non-fiction books that are not part of core curriculum, instead the focus is on reading for pleasure.
Licensing Income
Jellybooks pays publishers a predetermined license fee per pupil. The fee based on the agreed schedule between Jellybooks and publisher and is proportional to the recommended retail price for the relevant ebook or audiobook.
Marketing
The service is marketed by Jellybooks directly to schools and teachers as well as in partnership with leading literacy charities.
A white-label solution is also available for publishers. In addition, all participating publishers are encouraged to create a link to the service on their website.
Technical Integration
The service primarily targets chapter books, middle grade (MG) and young adult (YA) books. As with all content streamed using the Jellybooks Cloud Reader, reflowable ePub, fixed layout (FXL) and audiobooks are natively supported with accessibility features surpassing the EU 2025 requirements. These are the same formats used by Apple, Spotify and others, meaning you have no additional formatting work.
Please see our DISCOVERY section for how to submit assets to Jellybooks. Publishers who are already DISCOVERY users do not need to resubmit their assets to participate in Book Pass. A dedicated licensing agreement is required to participate in Book Pass.
